Update On Various UCY Events

Feeding the Hungry

Valentine’s Day weekend brought joy to many people’s faces around the inner city of Edmonton. This year, at this annual event, UCY made 250 lunch bags which were then distributed to the less fortunate living in our city. This is always such a great event for our youth to take part in because it’s such a great feeling when we help out in our community.

Teen Lenten Retreat

This year our Teen Lenten Retreat took place on March 23-25, 2012 at Camp Oselia where we spoke about what UCY really is and what they can do as the youth in their church. We had 7 teens attend the retreat that weekend where they also participated in various lenten prayers as well as social activities that included movie night and pysanka writing. All in all it was a great weekend! =D

Plashchanytsia Hop

The Plashchanytsia Hop was a great experience for everyone that came out this year. We had 15 people join us as we visited 6 of our Ukrainian Churches in Edmonton. These churches were St. Josaphant’s Cathedral, St. Basil’s, St. Vladamir’s, Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Holy Eucharist and Holy Cross. The youth that attended participated in Jerusalem Matins, various prayers such as a Marian version of the Rosary, and talks by Fr. Mihajlo Planchak and Fr. Ireneus.

Schools come for a Liturgy and to bless water at HSP

Every January over 1200 school children from the 4 Catholic Elementary schools come to Holy Spirit Parish to bless water, to celebrate the Divine Liturgy and to grow closer to God.  During the homily Fr. Bo and his trusty side-kick Marilyn (the Catechetical Puppet), explained the theology of “blessing stuff”.  Here is a picture of the backs of everyone’s heads at one of the services.  Also present was Fr. Louis from St. Anthony’s RC Parish.
